1.2 TV Equipment

The word “terrestrial” has been replaced with “non-satellite” throughout the section.

“Multichoice DStv decoder” has been changed to “DStv Satellite decoder”.

The question about the type of DStv Satellite decoder now includes a “Standard DStv decoder” option.

The question about various subscription satellite channels has been removed from the questionnaire and replaced with a new question to determine whether the household pays a “Full DStv service” or a “Compact DStv service” subscription.

1.3 Electronic Media

Television

The list of DStv channels has been reduced to only reflect the commercial channels plus an option for “Other DStv channels”.

The list of radio stations has been updated to reflect that of the Radio Diary (See Section 3).

Star Radio has been added to the AMPS CAPI questionnaire - this is a radio station that broadcasts at selected taxi ranks across the country.

In-store radio stations have been deleted from the survey.

“Download a Podcast” had been included under “Internet Activities”.

The question asking which financial services have been opened in the past 12 months has been adapted to be less specific. It now simply asks whether the respondent has opened any account in the past 12 months.

The two questions asking about type of credit and debit cards have been combined into one question and now include cheque cards.

The question asking whether the respondent’s retail store card has a credit facility has been deleted.

“Household contents”, “Motor vehicle”, “Home owners” and “Personal accident plan” have been included as examples of short term insurance.

Each of these has its own show card indicating the relevant companies.

The question asking which policies have been taken out in the past 12 months has been adapted to be less specific and has also been replaced by two questions – one focussing on long term policies/insurance/ products/services and the other on short term policies.
